Today I paint a scenario of a man walking down a path and a young chap walking right behind him. Watching them from a third-person point of view, one will observe that the young chap will walk in the direction the man in front of him is going. When the man jumps, then he jumps. When he needs to walk fast, then the young chap will do the same. The fact remains so long the young chap maintains focus on the man in front of him, he will get to the same destination through the same path be it smooth or rough.
No Christian has ever embarked on the Christian journey before. We must depend on those we have seen up ahead who made it to provide guidance on how the journey can be a successful one. The best place to get this needed guidance is in the word of God. The book of Psalms 119: 105 say; Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
As shared in my previous post (are you aware?) the bible is not just a collection of stories to catch up on, the book is a collection of the word of God. These words are not just random, miscalculated sayings. The book is the deliberate and intentional word of God to His children.
When Jesus was about to be betrayed, an interesting conversation ensued between Him and Thomas. Jesus told them He was going to a place that they know about and also that they knew the way to get there. John 14: 4 but Thomas asked Him, we do not where you are going to and how can we know the way to this place? But Jesus gave the answer that settled his confusion. In John 14: 6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father but by me. Meaning, He is the way to the Father. So long you know Jesus, you know how to get to the Father.
As Christians, we follow Jesus because we want to get to the Father and what greater place to know Jesus than reading the Bible. Jesus is the word of God. John 1:1-3 explains that Jesus is the word of God. Do you see how connected this is? The more you read the word, the easier it is to get the heart of the Father and when we do this, we find ourselves in His presence. It is so sweet being in the presence of the Father as the book of Psalms 16:11 says Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. There is Joy and pleasure in the presence of God.
The world is filled with so much chaos and instability, but we can only draw our comfort and peace by dwelling in the word of God. We will not only have peace in this present world, but we are assured of eternity with the Father. Friends, this is why we follow.
God bless you.
