It’s been a while since I last communicated with my dear friends here. The truth is, despite the silence, this space has never left my mind. With all the hustle and bustle, the voice of this space keeps calling me to duty.
When I read the Bible and observe events that occurred, I ask questions expecting to get answers. These questions are silently carried in my heart until I get answers. Today, I will share one of these moments. I was reading the book of Jonah, and I read this portion…But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish… Jonah 1:3.
I became curious and wondered why Tarshish? What was so special about that place? I must tell you that my answer did not come immediately, but when it came, I knew I had the answer. It happened during the church service at my local church while the speaker was teaching on a topic about King Jehoshaphat and how God gave him victory over the children of Moab and Ammon. But while he preached, I read the scriptures further, and my eyes caught Tarshish in the chapter. I began tracing to understand what King Jehoshaphat was looking for at Tarshish, and I found out from this chapter and several places in the Bible that Tarshish was a place of business. Another scripture shows that King Solomon also got gold from Tarshish.
Alas! I got my answer. Jonah was running from the presence of God to Tarshish to get into other businesses rather than to warn the inhabitants of Ninevah of God’s Judgement. This simply explains why he believed running into Tarshish would distract him from the assignment.
Ironically, this is what we see in our world today. As Christians, we have been saddled with the responsibility to preach the gospel to the lost and bring them to Christ. However, the worries, cares, and dealings of this world have dragged us far away from God. Making us deaf to His instructions and blind to the lost souls.
This is a call to remember the mandate of soul winning. They are waiting to hear the Gospel of Jesus.
As you read this article, are you still contemplating if Jesus should be considered? Take this as a confirmation that He is still reaching out to you. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that, Judgement. Hebrews 9:7 There is an end to life on earth, but eternity begins afterward. The choice you make here determines where you will spend eternity. Make that choice today.
God bless you
