Today’s conversation is on the encounter at the Mount of Horeb while Moses watched the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. The portion of the encounter that caught my attention was Exodus 4:8; “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign”.
The key item was the message of the sign, not the sign in itself. I had always looked at the sign; little did I realize the main item was the message. What is the message? The first sign was the turning of the dead rod into a Serpent and then back to the dead rod. The second was turning a healthy, lively hand into a dead, leprous hand and then back to a healthy hand. In summary, dear friend, He was saying I am the One who can kill and make alive! I am the life giver.
The Children of Israel can relate to this message because I believe the history of how God provided for Father Abraham, that the son whom he had declared dead was given life by the sacrifice of the ram on the mount. This story must have passed from one generation to the next. The moment they understood the message behind the sign, they reconciled the God on whose authority Moses was speaking.
Dear Friend, this same God is reaching out to you in various ways through signs that speak so loudly of His Sovereignty. The book of Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse”.
There is no reason to act ignorant of God. He is calling you into a relationship. He wants to be a Father and a God to you. The way He is bringing you to Himself is through His son, Jesus. Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me.”
Consider this write-up as another sign for you to come to God the Father. However, if you already have a relationship with the Father, consider this a sign for you to remain steadfast in His Love.
God bless you.
