Have you ever noticed how God remembers people at the exact moment they are standing in the gap for others?
The book of Book of Esther is often described as the story of a young orphan girl who found favour, and an uncle who genuinely cared for her welfare.
Today, I want to zoom in on that uncle—Mordecai.
As I was reading, I began to connect some dots, and the Holy Spirit gave insight into something deeper.
Remember when the Jews had to fast for three days? The fast was for Queen Esther to find favour before the king, Ahasuerus.
On the third day, Esther approached the king and invited him, along with Haman, to a banquet she had prepared. She then requested that they attend another banquet the following day.
Now, here’s where Mordecai comes into the picture.
The Bible says that night, the very night the fast ended, the king could not sleep. He ordered the book of chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought and read to him.
And what did they find?
Mordecai’s unrewarded act! how he had exposed an assassination attempt against the king. That was the moment his honour came.
Do you realize what happened?
Mordecai was not seeking attention. He was not relying on his proximity to the palace through Esther. Instead, he was actively involved in seeking the good of his people even through fasting.
He chose to stand in the gap for others. And right at the end of that fast, he was remembered.
Dear reader, the Lord remembers you when you choose to intercede on behalf of others.
This was also the case with Job. Scripture tells us that God blessed Job after he prayed for his friends.
Sometimes, when we set aside our own comfort, or even our needs, and lift others up in prayer, there is a reward attached to it. Ephesians 6:18 reminds us to pray for all God’s people. And truly, everyone falls into this category, because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.
To you reading this who may feel far away from God, we will continue to pray for you, that you come into the fullness of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. You can also reach out or find a local church near you. Jesus is waiting.
Before you go, take a moment to reflect—
Who have you been standing in the gap for lately? Or have your prayers been centered only on yourself?
Sometimes, your moment of remembrance may be tied to the moment you choose to lift others up.
See you soon.
God bless you.
